You may send news items to this address or contact us by E-mail. Mr Bob Mantooth '51 was the subject of a recent article in the Denver Post. Mantooth played Football, basketball, and baseball at West from 1949-1951 where he was a outstanding All-City athlete. He went on to play at UNC (Colorado State Teachers College). After college he coached in the Denver metro area and went on to officiate the sports he loved. He ended his career as an NFL official, retiring at the end of last season. Picture>>> We are saddened to hear of the passing of Ms.Lucille (Kuster) Dennison, 91, of Lakewood, CO. Ms. Dennison is a 1934 graduate of West High School. Her husband of 65 years, Hugh Dennison, was at her side. Picture>>> Ms. Lilly (Mills) Ehret '40 writes to say that she is "still hanging in there at age 85." Lilly has lived in Tacoma, WA for 60 years where she was a Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Stan Albert was recently elected to the Colorado State University Hall of Fame. Stan was an outstanding all-city, all-state athlete here at West High School. He currently lives in Rochester, NY where he heads a volunteer organization called QuadA, dedicated to reducing juvenile social problems. Mr. Claude Walton '33 was recently featured in the June, 2008 issue of the Coloradan (University of Colorado - Boulder). Mr. Walton, 94, was the first African-American to win a letter at the University of Colorado. He was also the first All-American athlete from the University of Colorado. We are proud to say that before all of that, he was a Cowboy!! Picture>>> Jack Whitworth '50 found this old postcard in an antique shop in South Carolina. Picture>>> Ratha Sok '07 and Bimmer Torres '07 are two very talented young men who are making quite a name for themselves as muralists. They and their work were recently featured in the New York Times. Story>>> Rep. Jim Kerr '62 represents House District 28 in the Colorado House of Representatives. The district is located in south Jefferson County. Link>>> Tom Bower '55 appears in the curreltly released movie Appaloosa. The movie was written and directed by Ed Harris. It is a western (how fitting) full of thunderous action and nail-biting suspense. Tom has been acting in movies, TV, and theatre ever since his graduation from West. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Manny Martinez '55. Manny was a tireless advocate for West High School and our students. He was a co-founder of Brother's Redevelopment and actively involved in the Latino community for more than 40 years. Manny was a blessing to us all and will be missed. |
